4. Description: Building construction work. Chelmsford Council would be pleased to receive expressions of interest from main contractors wishing to be considered for inclusion on the tender list for the next phase of refurbishment work at the Chelmsford Civic Centre by requesting and completing a prequalification questionnaire (PQQ).

The works will comprise the refurbishment of the Council Chamber, which was constructed around 1960, including replacement/upgrading of mechanical, electrical, data and audio visual services installations. Other works include the construction of two small extensions, and the refurbishment of ancillary areas. The Council Chamber is the principal space within the Civic Centre where many civic functions take place, and the quality of work taking place will reflect its significance.

The value of the works is estimated to be in the range 750K to 1M.

Tenders will be sought in June 2012 from a shortlist derived from PQQ returns, with a construction period commencing August 2012, and completing in December 2012.

The successful contractor will be operating in a busy and noise-sensitive operational civic site, located directly above the Civic Theatre. Disruptive and noisy works will need to be undertaken at times which avoid disruption to both the normal operation of the Council, and productions and performances in the theatre.

Potential contractors will be required to show previous experience of working to the highest standards of workmanship, and must also be able to demonstrate an excellent track record in respect of operating safely, and delivering completed construction works to tight programmes.
